Bow down: Australia officially has the greatest steak in the world

Countries with lesser meat products get out of the way. Australia officially has the best steak in the world, as if you didn't know already.
On Thursday, the inaugural World Steak Challenge took place in London. More than 70 top quality pieces of meat from 10 countries, including Japan, England and Germany, competed for the prize.

A panel comprised of chefs and industry-types chose the best overall steak in what was surely a high-protein judging process.
In a video accompanying the announcement, Jeff Wood of the journal Meat Science said he was looking for something special in his steak. "My perspective is I want flavour, and I want tenderness, and I want them in the right ratio," he said. "We've seen some good ones, we've seen some not so good ones."

In the end, Albers GMBH won with a piece of Australian Wagyu. Proprietor Frank Albers said he was amazed at his victory. "I'd hope for it, but there was a lot of participators, so I'm stunned."
Four other Australian steaks were among the 11 gold winners — more than any other country. We need not say more.
